Flavours of the Season

Another year is drawing to a close. It is hard to believe, but in just a few days Halloween will have passed and Christmas will be before us.

With the new season comes a whole selection of fresh seasonal trends and colours. Materials, colours, paints, are all going through their regular transformations as trends and tastes change. Here at Coordinated Kitchen and Bath we are projecting more purples in the trends for 2015. Expect to see more magenta, rose, mauve in paint colours and tiles as the year comes to a close.

Happily winter will not last forever, so with the arrival of the new year, expect to see mossy greens and taupes enter the mix. This means a play of these colours in fabrics, carpets, and paints. For those seeking a safer colour palette, greys and whites will once again hold their own; however, they can be beautifully complimented with touches of rose and mossy greens to add sparks of colour.

The only certainty in life is that it will never be constant. Coordinated Kitchen and Bath and Colours by Paula are pleased to help our customers on the North Shore and in Vancouver navigate the complex array of colours, cabinets, fixtures, and materials that are key to creating the perfect kitchen, bath, and home renovation time after time.

Dual Flush Toilets

Here at Coordinated Kitchen & Bath in North Vancouver we like to use materials that are both beautiful and sustainable. The dual flush toilet mechanism allows both to co-exist.

The dual flush toilet was originally invented in Australia as a way to conserve water in a climate where water is typically scarce. The toilet is increasingly being used around the world.

Standard toilets use a siphoning tube to remove waste from the toilet bowl. A high level of water enters the siphon after the toilet flush fills the siphon and pulls waste and water down the drain. When air enters into the tube again, the siphoning action stops. Dual flush toilets use a larger trap way than siphoning toilets do and a flush mechanism that pushes waste down through the drain. Because no siphon is used, dual flush toilets require less water per flush.

Through the use of half-flushes for liquid waste and reduced water usage on full flushes, the dual flush toilet can save over 60% more water than the standard toilet.

While the cost of purchasing a dual flush toilet can be a little more than for a standard toilet, here at Coordinated Kitchen & Bath we hope you take a good look at what is available on the market before purchasing a new toilet.

Kitchen and Bathroom Countertops

A properly selected countertop can define the feel of your kitchen or bathroom and increase the functionality of the space. This post will provide a quick overview of different countertop materials and styles available at Coordinated Kitchen & Bath to assist you with your kitchen renovation and bathroom renovation.

Laminate: The least expensive countertop material. Laminate is made in a wide variety of colours and can easily be cut into different shapes and sizes. Laminate countertops can look like more expensive materials and are generally easier to install. However, it should be noted that laminate countertops are easy to damage and show scratches and dents.

Granite: Natural stone that is sealed before being installed in your kitchen and bathroom. Granite is a durable stone that is resistant to heat and shock. Granite countertops are available in numerous colours, however, because they are made from natural stone, patterns and colours may vary from section to section. In conjunction, being natural stone, granite is porous and can show stains and acidic wear if not properly maintained. Granite counter-tops need to be resealed once a year in order to help prevent staining.

Soapstone: Natural stone that is sealed. Like granite, soapstone is a durable material that will not stain. Soapstone countertops can scratches easily, though damage by scratches can be reduced by sanding.

Quartz: Engineered stone countertop that is made up of 93% quartz crystals and 7% resin. Quartz countertops are designed to resemble the look of natural stone, however, different colours are added to give quartz a unified and polished look. Quartz is one of the most popular countertops in West Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Corian: A solid surface countertop manufactured by DuPont. The primary substances used in Corian countertops are acrylic polymers and various stone derived materials. Corian countertops are available in a wide-range of colours and patterns. Corian is easy to clean and is stain resistant, as the material is non porous. However, while stain-resistant, Corian scratches quite easily and can be damaged by placing hot pans and vessels on the counter-top.

Excellent Experience with Coordinated Kitchens and Bath

I had an excellent experience with Coordinated Kitchens and Bath. They helped transform my 1970’s, everything original down to the foil wallpaper bathroom, into the perfect space that really represents me and my husband’s tastes. It fits completely into the style of the rest of the house thanks to the time the colour designer and the lead coordinator spent helping us pick the perfect cupboards, counter, tiles, accessories and even paint colour. All the workmen were pleasant and professional and if I ever found a small problem (never encountered one of any significance) they were there the next day righting it. I highly recommend their services.

Coordinate Kitchens & Bath

I had insisted that the kitchen and two bathrooms was done by Coordinate Kitchens & Bath. Their service was professional, timely and stress free. Mike Williams as a project manager was exceptional. I live in a condo in Yaletown and every stage of the project was executed with no problems to me. The test is three years later my kitchen and bathrooms still look as if they were just done and i still love them.
It was a pleasure to work with a company and staff who delivered what I expected and paid for.
